"FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION" - MY ONLINE BESTIE DEY PARA.

I gave one of my online besties the chance to write on one topic I've been struggling to tackle for over 3 weeks now. Tiwa Alabede submitted her write-up on this issue in just 30 minutes after I gave her the topic - Female Circumcision. I never knew my Tiwa fit write oooo.....the write-up is short but straight to the point. She swept me off my feet.....if not for my gidigbo skills wey I get.....I for fall for ground yakata.

Tiwa wrote my mind on this topic.....as if we wrote the write-up together ni. ENJOY:

At the mention of circumcision my mind go carry me go the book of Genesis when Abraham and males of his household needed to get circumcised to serve as a sign of God 's covenant. But God no include females in this procedure. Female circumcision is the partial or total removal of the external female genitalia.

Imagine yourself being a little girl and your external genitalia removed. Think about the pains, the high risk of getting infected, the higher risk of getting injured, even d self esteem of d young girl will b crushed. With all these, you begin to imagine what the importance of this female circumcision is all about. As side being a traditional rite, it has no medical advantage. With all this, it is better referred to as a form of mutilation so let us call it 'Female Genital Mutilation'. With this, we can all reason with it as being a form of harmful traditional practice.

Thank God for the likes of WHO, UNICEF and other meaningful NGOs who are relentlessly working towards the eradication of this harmful practice. As much as I love being addressed as an African, I still dey dread some of our harmful practices especially female circumcision. As some babes go dey celebrate birthdays especially 10th, 15th, 21st, 25th having pool party, cutting gigantic birthday cakes, some African gals go dey prepare themselves to pass through a painful procedure. When will the girl-child not start to dey dread her birthday?

Most Africans encouraged this harmful procedure because it is believed to reduce the case of promiscuity among female children but if that is the case what should be done to reduce promiscuity amongst the male?

Sex is not to be enjoyed only by males but also females because once the clitoris is removed during the procedure, getting an orgasm by the female becomes very difficult making sex a one side satisfaction act. Promiscuity can be curbed in many encouraging ways not by inflicting injuries and pains.

Lets join the world to say NO to Female Genital Mutilation and encourage Gender Equality!!!!!!
