As you dey see me so, I no sabi save. I am very very poor at that. Any money wey enter my hand, na to quickly invest am into one venture/project.....sometimes sef, I go just spend all on myself, buying meaningless and useless things. My mama dey always fight me on top this matter......sey make I even dey try save......me wey no get bank account. Yeske! I don't have any account in any bank in this country. And I'm never bothered about it.
But, something happened of recent which obviously got me thinking. After this experience I'm about to share with you, I realized I've been so foolish not to have ever cultivated the habit of saving. I really felt ashamed of myself that day.
I went to check on my Aunty whose house is close to ours....and I met her and her children (a boy, 10 & a girl, 13) arguing over an issue on buying one home appliance to the house. My Aunty explained to them that their father is not yet ready to buy such into the house but has promised to buy it as soon as possible. My Aunty is a bank manager and her husband supplies oil and gas for big companies. Me sef dey wonder why dem papa no gree buy the stuff....cuz the stuff is worth 25K or thereabout....and I know they can afford to buy 100 of it. The children no gree to wetin dem mama talk oooo.
I tried talking to my Aunty to buy the stuff na....at least, it will be useful for her too. My Aunty said I should not interfere that she knows what she was doing. Me just keep shut....and continued chopping the pineapple dem serve me.
When my Aunty's children wahala don too much....my Aunty said they should do it this way.....they (the children) should go and bring their "saving box" - "kolo"......collect all the money they can find inside and use it to buy the home appliance. For my mind, I was like - "How much wan dey these ones' kolo? Patapata, e no fit reach 5K if dem add both savings"
I didn't know I was only making a fool of myself. My people, when these children carry dem kolo enter the sitting room and dem start to dey collect the money wey dey inside am.....we found N14, 320 in the girl's kolo and N19, 870 in the boy's kolo. Altogether, N34, 190. I became dumbfounded and was very shocked!
These little rats get this kind money as their savings? Oh My Sweet Jesus! I couldn't continue chopping the pineapple wey dey my front. I kan dey ask myself; How much do I have as savings? What will I do if there's an urgent thing to do that involves money? Where will I run to?
My Aunty revealed to me that her children gets N500 each every week for their lunch in school....they only spend N200 at the end of the week cuz they take food along with them to school, and they sometimes don't even spend the money at all. My Aunty also said her children has got accounts in her bank and they have over a 100 thousand naira in each of the account. Although, na my Aunty and her husband dey fund that one. But, the children fund their kolos themselves.
Me, I don't have a kolo.....I don't have a savings account....I no even get where I dey keep money for house. God has just been faithful to me....wey be sey I no suffer, I dey get money anytime I need am. Buh, the day wey I go find, I no go see nko?
That moment, right in my Aunty's house....I made a decision to start saving. Checking my kolo this morning, I don save like 1K since last week.....na still something....abi, no be so? And I've made up my mind not to touch the money in my kolo till e don full well well and that one go be like 5 years to this time.
And oh Yes! I'm opening 2 bank accounts soon - A savings and a current account. The savings account will be for my savings and for any of you wey wan shanu me send me money, as par your personal person *winks*....the current will be for official use, me too wan dey write cheque for people na and collect loan, if dem grant me sha, cuz I no get any collateral kan kan, unless if dem go fit allow make I use my Charming Humble Nice Girl as collateral.....lolz!!!
The koko now is; which bank is the best in Nigeria? Wey no go dey gimme problem and wey no go dey stress me. Wey be sey I go fit transact business with am home and abroad. Recommend for me abeg!
