I'm just curious to know the answer to this question. Like seriously, it baffles me a lot. My mum and I went to visit her father who happens to be my own old Grandpa (he should be around 94 or so). He sent for my mum claiming he needs to see her for the last time before he dies. Me was kinda scared and for the fact that I've never seen someone die before me....I follow my mama go hin place thinking he would die before me.....not funny though!
On getting there, he started saying words that are out of this world in Ijebu language. His own Ijebu accent is very concentrated and so strong, I couldn't get most of his words clearly. But I could hear him say things like: He sometimes see himself walking on a long never ending road.....He sees some of his ancestors welcoming him to a very nice and beautiful place......He feels himself been lifted from his bed with nobody doing that....and so on.
Those words were really frightening. He told my mum that when he dies they shouldn't take him to the mortuary. He even said they (his children) should gather his grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him one day, he wants to see them for the last time. The funny thing here is my mum was just smiling and I was like, is she happy that her father will soon die or what? I didn't bother myself for too long over that. What I wanted to see was he should just throw his hands and head down and die.....then I'd see if I will cry or not.
My mum told him his time never reach to die....that he should calm his nerves and enjoy his life. I told my mum to let's preach the gospel to him so that he will become born again and make heaven when he dies.....we don already dey plan that one now....make God help us nani.....before its too late.
This same thing happened during the last moment I spent with my paternal-grandma. I was with her gisting and suddenly she acted strange by using her hand to send away some unseen children in front of her.....I was shocked and very afraid. She said she saw some children playing in front of us and they were disturbing us, so she had to send them away.....me didn't see any children. 2 months after, I received the news of my grandma's death.
Has any of you guyz experienced this kinda thing with your aged people? And is it a sign that they truly wanna die? Do they really see themselves dying? Abi, na just old age things?
Please, anybody with an answer should drop a comment.

ReplyDeleteI think so too. Before my grandma died, she gave out her things because she felt " be needing them on the journey she is about to embark on".
ReplyDeleteBelieve me, it was mighty scary.
