THE CRIES OF A FRUSTRATED FRESHER IN OLABISI ONABANJO UNIVERISTY.

I need to speak up....I know some OOU lecturers and top officials visit my blog and this has in one way or the other restrained me from doing this long time ago....but I've been pushed to the wall....there is no going back. Like seriously, education in Nigeria will continue to become worse if care is not taken.

For those of you who never sabi, I'm a student of OOU, a fresher for that matter. I thought a degree after my OND programme would be a nice idea but with the way things are now,  coming to OOU to earn the degree is the worse step I've ever taken in my life.

We resumed June 2nd and lectures begun fully towards the end of this same month. I can tell you significantly that I've not for once enjoyed any of my lectures. [Kindly scroll down to study the pictures below]……Those pictures were taken by ME during one of our lectures...Imagine yourself in that kinda hall seated for a goddamn lecture....How on earth do you wanna assimilate one thing?

All departments in Faculty of Science receive lectures in this hall...reason being that we all offer most of the courses in 100Level;
More than 1000 helpless students;
1 lecturer in front dictating;
No Public Address System;
No light;
The hall stinks every time [mix of different perfumes and body odors];
No proper ventilation;
No organization.....you need to see how we rush to write attendance.

I've worked with more than 4 corporate organizations and none of my boss ever asked me to find x or y....this is one problem I've been having with my Mathematics, Physics and Statistics lecturers.

Y'all should never expect me to understand any of those courses in an environment like that.

There are 3 lecturers assigned to take us CHM 101 and as foolish as they were, they would all stand in front of a 1000 helpless students and lecture us all at the same time....Jeeezzz! Are they so dumb to think dividing the class into 3 classes, a lecturer assigned to each of these classes would be a nice idea?

One lecturer gave us an assignment and told us to submit to our class reps....the class reps will then submit the answer scripts of more than 1000 students to his desk the next day. Please, will someone explain to me how this mad lecturer will mark these scripts successfully.
This is why the issue of missing scripts will never cease to happen in most Nigerian Universities.

I wake up as early as 6am in order to get to school by 7am [Lectures start by 8am] just to get a seat in the front row...I always get the shock of my life on getting to my lecture hall by 7am and the hall filled up to the brim....and then I wonder:
Don't these my fellow freshers sleep at home?

I've spent 6 weeks in school and I've not been finding it funny. I just cant wait to end this semester and enjoy my lectures with my course mates ONLY (Computer Science).

And imagine, the school (or whoever is in charge) couldn't even welcome us with a 'Freshers Party' or something.

I can't blame my friend, Peter who just graduated from OOU when he asked me why I chose to come to OOU, he said he would never advice his enemy to come to OOU.
Is Olabisi Onabanjo University that worse?

And upon all these, my fellow freshers (guys) be dressing like Davido and Wizkid....and dem girls be dressing like Tiwa Savage and Cynthia Morgan to school....Buhahahahaha....e go soon tire dem.

  1. You see.....that which you are facing now....is what makes education in Nigeria interesting.....I must say that it is a ritual you must partake in to be able to tell the story when you eventually graduate....that my friend is the spice that makes the stew delicious...
    you see this experience is the same in every government owned higher institutions....and even to the primary and secondary schools...
    we as students must blend in ; try and find our way through.....
    its good you have said something about it...even though you will not be the first... nor the last....It's a continued process my friend....
    just make sure you write more on it ....so I can smile
    and laugh about it even though it is a painful experience....I once had lectures in that kind of theatre ....and am still facing some other challenges here with my lecturers even in my finals.....
    Life continues....my brother....Just Ride along...You will and must make. both a prayer and an advice
