#1. NEVER LOOK DOWN ON THOSE WHO HELPED TO PUSH YOU UP A LADDER AS THEY COULD EQUALLY PULL YOU DOWN:
The first mistake Mr President made was biting the fingers that fed him, by simply forgetting those who helped him up. The voice of the masses suddenly meant nothing. He was more concerned with the interest of those selfish politicians to that of the Nation. Following the mass support for the incumbent president by Nigerians during his first campaign, were to no avail, the masses were heart broken and disappointed. Amidst no conspicuous change in six years tenure and most part of two decades consecutively spent by same party, one can with much intrepidity say the president was the architect of his failure. With little or no dilemma, I did like to acknowledge the successful project thus far, by the present or should I say out going administration, after six years.
Though to my own opinion, I feel there were rather to volatile or were not of paramount importance and should have been postponed or expunged when drafting the Nation's scale of preference. Unemployment, insecurity, electricity, not excluding law enforcement, the most recent being the insane hike of the value of dollar to Naira which certainly led to inflation, are some of the accruing problems that needs foremost attention.
Rather, he allowed some delicate department of his administration to be dictated by few irrational dainty genders. Also, conceding the lost of seven governors from his party wasn't wisdom but carelessness and mere negligence. Take a sneak peak at the collation results of those seven states, then you will see what ignorance and pride has caused. I learnt to keep my old friends, as making new ones are far fetched. He took cognizance of the miss leading ideas and advice from his new friends which at this circumstance and time, he already should be losing them in an arithmetic progression. While he handled that of old folks and most importantly the happiness of the people with kids gloves. Guess he probably learnt his lessons.
Unfortunately, it came the very hard way, as it cost him his political carrier. 'All thanks to his special advisers especially on political issues.'
#2. KEEP TRYING, YOUR NEXT PUNCH MIGHT JUST BE THE KNOCK OUT PUNCH:
One thing I admired so much in him (GMB.) was his burning zeal to succeed as the President. Despite several falls, he always picked him self up and never lost focus on his belief and aspiration. His dream of becoming the President of the most populated black nation wouldn't have come to reality if not for perseverance and determination.
"Hold fast to dreams for if dreams die, life is like a broken winged bird that can not fly" - Langston Hughes.
Similarly, "attempting and failing does not describe you as a failure, it simply shows you are trying". He failed severally and just when he was about giving up, his last punch was the K.O punch. Hence, the axiom of success is like that of a pregnant woman: "As long as you keep pushing, you will deliver".
#3. EVEN WHEN IT SEEMS IMPOSSIBLE, WITH PERSEVERANCE NOTHING IS ACTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE:
Prior to the announcement of the collation results, majority expected it to be in favor of the incumbent president, as Nigerians are used to the fate of being constrained to accepting a second tenure by previous government. On my previous article ere to the election, I recall stating that: "presuming there is a none skewed result, the incumbent president will be given a run for his money". Hence, I wasn't startled by the outcome of the collation. Political parties, politicians and every other entities should learn a lesson or two from this. The first thought that was conveyed in my head after the announcement of the results was:
"If GMB. in this modern senility can become the president of Nigeria then actually, with determination anyone can make it".
For a candidate with almost zero educational qualification to not only contest for the number one office in a country as dense as Nigeria, but also elected over an opponent with a Ph.D qualification, then you can be sure to always expect the unexpected. The euphoric demeanor of the newly born Nigeria is the fact that her children can now experience a peaceful election and not the usual feeling of selection which they felt in the past. This will also make any incoming government be on pins and needles.
Much credit to the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission: Attahiru Jega, for his credibility and integrity to have resisted any temptation to compromise. As usual, much is now expected of the new party and incoming government; but what more can I say, "until God deign to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words: wait and hope".
#4. THE END PRODUCT OF GREED IS SHAME:
Just as the earth has enough to satisfy man's need but not man's greed, same is applicable to the office of the presidency. Amidst ample number of agitated minds from folks and Nigerians over the intention of a second tenure by Mr President, it would have been more honorable to autonomously step down rather than succumbing to the greedy taught of taking the risk of being compelled to be pushed down. Guess he was aspiring for a record breaking tenure, on the other hand, got a shameful democratic record. Apprehensive of the fact that, un seating an incumbent president during a primary or general election is all most impossible. Actually, "it wasn't curiosity that killed the goose who laid the golden egg but an insatiable greed that devoured common sense".
Pardon my vulnerability, but on my own opinion, I see no reason why Mr President should initially be coy on his assertive intention of a second tenure, as it portrays a latent meaning of lack of readiness and self confidence. The delay I believe had a negative impact on his campaign. Hence, I still think his advisers have a share of the blame or he was obstinate and adamant to advice.
"Dragon kind was no less cruel than mankind. The dragon, at least, acted. from bestial need rather than bestial greed" - Thought of Lessa.
At this iota, I did like to wish him luck in his political career.
And I must confess, I'll miss those series of comic and hilarious videos and audios. Courtesy of the First Lady*
