So, ENJOY:
I made move to run out of the hall to the compound but was caught by the security guard and brought back into the hall, I was so bold as my breath became heavier and anger filled my mind. Pastor Jackson sat on the ground drenched in his own blood while the nurses resident at the home began to treat him while I was made to kneel down at a corner.
As if all hell was let loose on Pastor Jackson as Favour and Patience began to shout inside his office for help and the matron sluggishly turned and walked towards the office of the pastor and then minutes later she came out with the two girls. Patience kept crying profusely and her gown also carrying little blood stains as she managed to walk been held for support by the matron as they approached the crowd where I was told to kneel down and the crowd burst into another noisy uproar and Pastor Jackson got pissed, kneeling down and taking first aid treatment from the nurses as he shouted from there:
PASTOR JACKSON: Shut up, I say shut the fuck up, if I hear noise from anyone tonight, that person leaves this home tonight!
Since I turned 18 my dream has been to leave the motherless baby home and I have been rejected a couple of times anytime I approached the matron with my reasons for wanting to leave. This seem like the perfect opportunity for me as I stood up and echoed the war songs we normally sing anytime the cooks prepare a meal we don't like
ME: {singing} today today,
tomorrow no more,
if I die today
I will die no more
The crowd chorused along with me and then in split minutes the hall was in total disarray as the other boys and girls went into a frenzy, destroying everything their hands could lay and the staffs ran helter skelter including Pastor Jackson whom I pursued as he ran to his office, jammed the door and locked it. It took the saving grace of the police station nearby who sent policemen to the home to help calm the situation and by morning peace was restored to the home. The once neat building now a shadow of itself, the ceilings all shattered and the glass windows all shattered. Pastor jackson's car that was parked outside had all of its windscreen and side mirrors destroyed also.
As I was told that the matron was looking for me, I walked into her office expecting the worst, I had nothing to live for neither would I be missed by anyone so I felt as at the time I walked into her office as our matron looked at me with disappointment in her eyes
MATRON: You have decided to be the black sheep here and we can no longer condole such incessant behavior. You, Favour and Patience are to leave this premises immediately
I was a bit confused for I knew nothing of the outside what awaits me and being shouldered with the responsibility of catering for Favour and Patince whom almost cried blood when the news of their exit from the home hit them. As we carried the few clothes we were allowed to carry and we walked out the home as we turned and looked at the gate of the home for the last time, we didn't know which direction to take, either left or right as Patience grabbed me by the hand and Favour followed suit as we took left heading toward Ikeja junction.
Being thrown into earth without a single kobo is the worst thing that could happen to anyone and especially a place like Lagos. This mad town is a city of no love, a place where every "JJC" is treated with so much disgust and hatred in their eyes, they see everyone as a competitor in the proverbial land of milk and honey and would do anything to wipe you out or take the little you have all in the name of being a "mugu". The popularised slogan; "mugu fall guy man chop" is all up in everybody's attitude here in lagos.
We trekked to the junction and I noticed the strange way men looked at Patience, she had a great body and her body shone like it was polished. A car drove past us at the junction and then suddenly the car began to reverse towards us, the tinted glass whined down and a man in his late fifties with a protruding tommy that was almost touching the steering with white beards that adorned his face smiled and said: MAN: Are you going my way?
We don't even know where we were going so that question couldn't be answered so we muttered few words and Patience opened up:
PATIENCE: We don't know where we are going to sir, no place in particular
As tears drooled down her eyes, he couldn't believe the answer he got from us.
MAN: Get into the car now all of you
We didn't hesitate and we entered his car and he drove for over an hour without saying a word to us and I was becoming to feel uncomfortable.
