Please NOTE that what you are about to read is strictly my OWN PERCEPTION on this issue, NO ONE pushed me to this, not even the Creative Director of the event. I, Ifede Oluwayimika a 200L Computer Science Student with Martric No SCI/13/14/0322 single handedly came up with this. So, if there'd be any further punishment, let it be placed on ONLY ME. Thanks and ENJOY!
So, I was online on Monday evening enjoying the goodness of BBM when a Broadcast message came up from the SUG PRO stating how the event I and my team-mates together with the Creative Director of the event have been working tirelessly on for months has been SUSPENDED and also threatened to CANCEL the event TOTALLY if any hype-man or blogger continue hyping the event.
There was NO reason whatsoever attached to the BASELESS and UNCALLED FOR announcement. The Press Release was signed by The President, PRO and Social Secretary of the SUG. Only 3 out of many officials of the SUG (who were not informed and were also shocked on seeing the announcement like every other students) took that decision.
This thereby caused arguments between the PRO and members of the team working on the event. The PRO who made the announcement was challenged to give reasons for the suspension, all he did was update his status on BBM apologizing to whoever has messaged him for not replying that night.
At exactly 2:03am (Una already know sey me no dey sleep), the SUG PRO came online and posted on the OOU MEDIA TEAM group on BBM consisting of just 6 members (of which I am honoured to be among) useless, porous and what sounded like childish reasons for suspending the event. I am NOT sorry for using those words.
The PRO however strongly warned us NOT to use any part of the content of his reasons for anything i.e. na ONLY the 6 of us (including himself) need explanation as to why the event should be suspended. TOTAL RUBBISH!!!
What about the remaining thousands of students of OOU, they should only be informed of the suspension and not be made to understand why?
Summarily, he explained to us on the group that the Creative Director of the event has jumped lots of protocols and has also ignored working with the Social Secretary and has rudely spoken to the SUG President on Monday afternoon (details about this later). The PRO also claimed that they only suspended the event for him to correct his mistakes.
Abeg, they said the Creative Director of the event didn't follow protocols; how then was he able to get the official letterhead papers which was duly signed by the President and the Social Secretary?
The Creative Director of the event was acussed of not working with the Social Secretary on the project; sorry, our dear social secretary has NEVER for once shown serious interest in the event. There were many times the Creative Director of the event would complain bitterly about how our social secretary is behaving towards his calls and texts. He was just NEVER READY to work. His utterances and responses are always annoying everytime we called on him for anything. Now, tell me; who wants to work with such unseriousness if PROGRESS is the key?
And lastly, the Creative Director of the event was said to to have spoken rudely to the SUG President. Who dha hell is the SUG President whom one cannot speak rudely to if he messes up? He is a 400L student, likewise the Creative Director of the event (400L student in TASUED). If Mr President had responded well with respect when he was called on Monday afternoon, why would he have been rudely spoken to?
The Creative Director of the event called the SUG President for the very first time after he had gotten so frustrated by the behaviour of the Social Secretary towards his event.
First, he was greeted with utmost respect.
Secondly, the Creative Director of the event introduced himself properly and also expressed his sadness over the fatal accident incident and then sympathized with the families of the victims.
Thirdly, the Creative Director of the event used the medium to officially invite the SUG President to his event coming up on August 28th and also informed him that he'd be coming down to Ago-Iwoye to submit a letter of invitation to the Vice-Chancellor of the school and he'd really love to have the SUG President and the Social Secretary to go see the VC with him for easy access.
And when our SUG President would respond, he said since the event is not in conjunction with the SUG, the Creative Director doesn't need anyone to follow him go see the VC, he should just go alone. He didn't sound helpful in anyway and PRIDE laced all his words that afternoon.
We are all students, you being in a position of power doesn't mean you are superior to anyone and you shouldn't be Polite. It is compulsory to make everyone understand how hectic and terrible it is organizing such a big event that involves the participation of almost all the higher institutions in South-West part of the country. As at the time this write-up is written, no particular sponsor has been found. Every achievement so far has been from the pocket of the Creative Director and great efforts of the team. As a matter of fact, the Creative Director and I talk on daily basis, so I know and understand what he is currently going through just to make the event a memorable and great one.
The suspension is uncalled for and the reason given is baseless. It will only make sense to whoever does not know the true story of what has been going on. Suspending the event is NEVER in the interest of the students of OOU, we are not even in support of the suspension for whatever reason the SUG has.
Since the announcement of the suspension, no student from other participating schools has said anything good about the current SUG administration. This is not the first time they will suspend an event (not even one), they have done it before, they have done it again and they will still do it.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH!!!
I am not in any position to order the SUG to reverse the suspension but as far as I am concerned, NOTHING...I repeat; NOTHING will STOP the event; MUSIC MEETS FASHION AND AWARDS 2015 [2ND EDITION] to take place on the 28th of August in the town of Ago-Iwoye.
The SUG should focus on some necessary projects they should have done and stop going about doing anyhow. Please, other schools now sees us without sense and co-ordination. So, what image have you now painted?
