DEAR UPCOMING ARTISTES, USE SOME OF WIZKID'S [ @wizkidayo ] STRATEGY TO GET TO THE TOP

Do you know what it feels like to be at the TOP of the game? Ask Wizkid, Olamide, Chidinma, 2Face Idibia, DBanj, Don Jazzy, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal etc and they will tell you "Its A Dream ComeTrue". I know you also have that dream. Don't worry, it's just a matter of time before you arrive. You will soon become a celebrated music artiste if only you get all your calculations right.

Today, I will be sharing a very key pointer on how you can be better packaged for opportunities that you will meet on your way. When you are prepared, you are already a ready made market and will be available for sale. Every music artiste is a product available for sale, waiting for buyers. That's why even the super stars still get endorsed by corporate and government entities and pocket huge sum of money.

But from what we have noticed, 90% of upcoming artistes are not marketable at all. They are not pleasing to the sight and that's why they perform at a show and no one dares to get their phone numbers or collect their call cards. In fact, if you have performed at shows, and people don't rush at you to get your telephone number or email address, then you still have along way to go.

In today's post, we will be taking a cue from Ayo Balogun (Wizkid)'s journey to success and how it can help you get to the top. From my personal knowledge of Wizkid, I understand that by the time he met EME, Wizkid had horned his musical skills such that he was unique from people, like every other artiste in the world is unique. Before 17, he had recorded a 11 track album. That's a lot of efforts, even without his parents backing. You know how stressful it will be for a young man like him. He was said to be very humble too and that's why he was working with some known acts at that time and benefited so much from it.

Unlike many upcoming artistes who record 2 songs or 3 and feel like they are on top of the world. They meet people who could help them and PRIDE kicks them out of chances.
Here are highlights of some of Wizkid's strategy:
* He Worked On His Singing Ability:
This time, it wasn't only about singing, but singing with the Wizkid's voice. See this scenario, if you are placed in a midst of 1000 people and you sing, can people detect your voice easily? Like when you hear Olamide sing on radio, without asking any questions, you know that he is the one. Is your voice to that point yet? If NO, then you need to work on it. Look for a voice trainer or train yourself to draw out your unique voice. In business, it is called Unique Selling Proposition (USP).

* Wizkid Was A Full Time Boy-Boy:
It is obvious that you know what boy-boy means in local English. For those who don't know, it means being at the mercy of an elderly person, more or less being an errand boy. Whether you like it or not, if you want a top producer or artiste or promoter to help your music career when you have no money to pay, you just have to be very willing to be of service to them. That's the only way. For the ladies: am not asking you to have sex with him, but there are other means by which you can be of service such as assisting with domestic chores, running simple errands, reasoning what would make his/her life better and assisting the very way you can etc. Now, Wizkid's case was the fact that he was humble and was ready to do what he was told to do, that's why he was able to work with the likes of MI Abaga and Banky W.

* Be Innovative:
It's so funny how some young people who call themselves artistes are dry and not innovative. An innovative person for example can take a song in four different ways. Many musicians cannot. They are static. You need to be innovative. When you are recording songs, all songs don't need to follow the same beat or pattern. Hell NO! That will be boring to listeners. Even the full song need to be dynamic. That's what keeps people's interest in the song.

* Do Not Be Proud Until You Get To The Top:
Pride is an inevitable part of man's life. No man can say he/she has no pride, but problem comes when it is too much that it now affects the person's relationship with people. If you are in the studio and your manager or producer tells you a line is not too good to be recorded, calm down and look for ways to improve on it. But many artistes, who feel that they are perfect record the song exactly the way they composed it, even when there are technical corrections.

So, take note of these and make sure you use them to improve on your music.
