I dunno if dem get special greeting for Alaba, I for hail my Alaba people with am first. You guys know Alaba Int'l Market na, the one wey dey Ojo, Lagos....no be TWO for the whole world. People from all over Africa come to trade at Alaba. Wetin you wan buy wey no dey Alaba, and wetin you wan sell wey dem no fit buy for Alaba?

I bought a 24inches LG Plasma TV at the rate of N32 000 ONLY last year October (NOT at Alaba. At Alaba, it costs N25 000)......by mistake, I got the screen cracked and instead of me repairing it with N15 000, I decided to sell it off as scrap. My big cousin (Stamof) trades at Alaba Int'l Market but lives in Sagamu. I told him about the TV, we agreed on taking it to Alaba the next time he goes to trade there.

When he saw the TV the day before we went to Alaba (I had to be at his place that night cuz he leaves early for Alaba in the morning), he shocked me by saying the TV can only be bought for N5 000 or even lesser than that:
"You bought it for 32K. Brand new at Alaba should be around 27K. So, the fairly used will be around 20K. If you want to change the screen, it will cost you 15K....so, this scrap will only fetch you 5K or less." Stamof declared.

TV wey me dey think sey dem go buy am 15K or patapata 10K......

I've been to Alaba twice (unto window shopping tinz)....this was my first ever trade experience at Alaba. I saw hell....come see me as I dey carry TV waka with my cousin under sun. Dem kan dey rush us:
"Follow me na, sheybe you wan repair am ni?.....come make I buy this your TV.....Bros, my oga dey call you.....I go give you better price for your repair...." we got many of this from over 16 different Electronics dealers wey scatter themselves around us....just because of one TV wey no even complete. Oga oooo.

My cousin kept shouting at them:
"We no dey repair am ooooo.....leave us alone na. I no dey come your shop. I get my own dealer.....I sey I no dey sell am, na by force to follow you ni?....No touch me oooo"
I was surprised at what my cousin was saying.
"Here are people willing and even ready to buy the TV, and you are rejecting them" I thought.
I didn't say anything, I sha dey follow am. We entered a shop, and it seemed like my cousin must probably have a good relationship with the owner of the shop cuz they wasted time greeting each other. My cousin told him we want to change the screen:
"24inches? Chai! The screen nor really dey market, e go hard us to see. And even if we see am, na 16 taaasund naira last. But we fit swap am for you, you go just add small money join....like 18K" Dealer explained.
My Cousin - "How much kan be the brand new?"
Dealer - "That one na 25 jale jale"
My Cousin signaled to me to confirm what he told me the previous night.
My Cousin - "So, if I wan sell am as e dey like this nko?"
Dealer - "As e dey so, I go give you 3 taaasand."

I nearly screamed. So, I go waste my time and efforts, carrying a TV all the way from Ago-Iwoye, to Sagamu and then to Alaba to get 3 taaasand naira? Mba! I no dey sell again. But, on a second thought; the TV was useless and I just couldn't go back to school with the TV. Wetin we wan kan do now?

We left the shop and this handsome looking Ibo guy told us to follow him....we too begin dey follow am, we dey follow am dey go....as he was about to take us into a dark corner, my cousin came back to life and took another direction....me wey dey carry TV kan dey confused....who I wan follow now?
"If you wan lose your TV, follow am!" My cousin alerted me.
Na by myself, with myself follow my cousin go another direction. That handsome looking Ibo man don witch us finish sha. So, if we follow am enter that dark corner;
"If you no wan lose one of your arms or even your life, just drop the TV for them and beg them to free you" Na wetin my cousin tell me be that.

I saw orisirisi that day untop TV wey don crack. My cousin vex sey em no dey sell the TV again....he gave me some amount of money so that the time and efforts wey I use carry the TV come no go waste, and then said he would change the screen and put it up for sale or use.

The experience that day was something else....Ibo boys dey work, we Yoruba niggas lazy small oooo. For Alaba, ibo boy wey be Apprehentice get money pass Yoruba Carpenter wey don do freedom. TRUE OR FALSE?

Lest I forget, I ate one Eba with Ibo soup for that Alaba....that food too sweet, orisirisi type of meat and fish with plenty ponmo....I no finish the eba but I made sure I ate all the animals in the only-God-knows soup I was served.

I would be going back to Alaba soon, you get anything wey you wan sell? You know how to get in touch with me na.....
