This is time for Nigerian citizens, at large, to have a feel of the intrigues, suspense, glamour, and fun that are always attached to great award ceremonies like Oscar Awards.
For the very first time in the history of this nation, the Nigerian OSCAR, which unlike the popular Academy Awards, is set to honour Nigerian students and some outstanding citizens of Nigeria.
As part of activities lined up for this year’s Outstanding Student Choice Awards of Recognition, the event management team of Nigerian OSCAR has publicly announced the award program.
This was contained in a statement issued and signed by the Senior Communication Officer in Abuja on Monday.According to the press release, “The Nigerian OSCAR 2015 is set to hold at one of the major event centres in Lagos, Nigeria and there are three main programs attached to this year’s event.“
Nigerian OSCAR encompasses the National Student Awards, the Multicultural Food Feast, and more importantly, a Grand Reception for 20 Most Exceptional Nigerians (MEN) of 2015″.
It will be recalled that in 2014, OSCAR Nigeria organized the OAU OSCAR and LAUTECH OSCAR with massive acceptance and commendation.
During the OAU OSCAR, prominent figures and brands like Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State, Prof. Bamitale Omole, Diamond Bank, Airtel Nigeria, Nestle Nigeria, and 40 Great Ife students were awarded and honoured at the highly prestigious Oduduwa Hall of Obafemi Awolowo University.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Olusegun Mimiko on Student Affairs, Mr. Muyiwa Asagunla “OSCAR Nigeria is particularly a Nigerian initiative that will easily get global publicity and attention. The brand has, perhaps, set integrity as its hallmark”.
Meanwhile, Ojekunle hinted that the 20 MEN Awards will showcase and honour 20 exceptional Nigerians who have done something unique in 2015.
The major intrigue is that the 20 MEN Awards will provide just one winner each from 20 different fields to be considered such as Sport, Film, Music, Journalism, Fashion, Good Governance, Advocacy, Traditional Leadership, Humanitarian Services, Patriotism, etc.
Several companies are already showing serious interest in sponsoring this unprecedented innovative and creative event.
While speaking on this development, a national student leader, Comr. Tunde Aguntasholo commended the efforts of the organizers saying “Nigerian students and national leaders can feel appreciated for their enormous contribution to national development”.
